Video presentation on "Would Islamic finance have prevented the global financial crisis?"

Delivered 6 July 2009

This presentation was delivered at an international symposium on "Islamic Banking and Finance and the Current Global Financial Crisis" in Melbourne.

The symposium, then the largest ever held on the subject in Australia, was being opened by the Hon Nick Sherry, Assistant Treasurer of Australia and co-hosted by La Trobe University, National Australia Bank (NAB) and the Muslim Community Corporation of Australia (MCCA).

I was one of the two keynote speakers, the other being John Hewson, former leader of the Australian Liberal Party. The videos of the talks, including mine, can be downloaded free from iTunes. Line 13 in the list on the linked page is the audio only version, while line 14 is the video. The video unfortunately only shows me rather than my slides, so I have posted the slidepack on this website.

An earlier page on this website gives details of what else I did during the Australian trip and the state of Islamic finance in Australia.

I delivered the same lecture later that month in London to the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance, and afterwards wrote an article based on the lecture.
